European Surf Lifesaving Championship
Holywell Bay SLSC were represented by Rhys Ellis-Davies and Steve Peck who travelled to Torrevieta, Spain to compete in the European Championship on 24th and 25th September.
31 clubs from all over Europe were competing to win medals and team points in several age categories. Unlike some other clubs who combined to create bigger teams (and win extra points), Rhys and Steve demonstrated loyalty to their club by competing for Holywell Bay without any extra team members. This meant that Holywell Bay finished 18th from 22 teams in the 40+ category, and 12th out of 31 teams in the 45+ category, winning a total of 6 fabulous medals from 11 events. This is an amazing result achieved by two truly dedicated club members.
Rhys Ellis-Davies won GOLD in the flags, BRONZE in the board race, came 7th in the Ocean Race and 2km Race, 9th in the Surf Race and 12th in the Beach Sprint.
Steve Peck won GOLD in the Board Race, GOLD in Flags and GOLD in Beach Sprint, SILVER in the 2 km Run and 15th in the Surf Race.
It cannot be overstated how well Steve and Rhys have done by competing against the best in Europe. To return home with 6 medals between the two of them is a monumental achievement.
