Holywell Bay SLSC hosted the Cornish Championship over the weekend of 12th and 13th September when 12 teams from all over the County competed against each other and the weather conditions! Fierce competition was watched by crowds of spectators as teams fought in beach sprints, relays, flags and 1k runs followed by surf swims, board races, relays and rescues. Points were awarded for the top 8 places in each competition with gold, silver and bronze medals for the top 3.

All clubs entered teams in Youth, Senior and Masters categories with Holywell demonstrating their tremendous team spirit and competitiveness by winning the Masters, coming second in the Seniors and 5th in the Youth. The Masters won a fantastic 15 gold, 18 silver and 22 bronze medals, the Seniors won 9 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze and the Youth team won 6 gold, 15 silver and 3 bronze.

The weekend was a great success for our club who were highly praised by Cornwall SLS for organising such a successful event. All competition events are tailored to represent the range of incidents likely to be encountered by lifeguards and club members all year round. Training and competitions improve the high standards needed to be able to maintain safety on our beaches.
