Training
Winter training Junior and Senior 2015-2016
Through the past two winters the Junior training has been 10-12 every Saturday. This session and the wide variety of activities has succeeded in keeping juniors interested and was a major factor in securing funding for the new competition equipment. Planning for the 2015-16 Winter season prioritised the need to maintain the enjoyment and camaraderie of the group whilst also allowing all to progress in terms of the lifesaving and sport skills.
The Saturday session will continue in the present form. There will be a slightly later start time to allow members to participate in the Newquay based board training sessions offered by GB coach Scott Wood. The session will be a half hour shorter running from 11-12.30. Where possible we will expect to go in the sea, the juniors will be expected to bring wetsuits, boots and gloves (plus hood) as well as clothing suitable for running in inclement weather. Dry warm clothing for afterwards as well as some food will also be required.
The focus will continue to be a fun mix of:
- Lifesaving knowledge and skills
- Sport
- Fitness
- Gaining competencies
- Leadership
As has been the case over the past 2 winters. (These times may change due to a new development session being set up by GB athlete George Haynes. We would like to encourage those members who are keen to progress in Surf Lifesaving sport to take the opportunity to learn from the best in the country.)
The first session Holywell Junior winter session will be Saturday 7th Nov.
In addition to the Saturday Winter Junior session we are introducing an optional Sunday session with a sport based focus. This will be at Holywell when conditions allow but based on experience of winter conditions may well be on flat water at either the Gannel or Malpas. This will be focused board and ski based training and will run from 10-11.30. This will be open to senior members as well as juniors. The club committee has agreed the purchase of buoyancy aids for ski paddlers.
This session will start Sunday 18th October 2015
Seniors Circuits will continue to be at 9.30- 10.30 at the club on Saturday mornings.
