Juniors (13 to 16 years) and Youth (16 to 19 years)
Youth members often go on to be qualified RNLI beach lifeguards, gaining their requisite qualifications through club-based training and experience. Members of 16 years and over are encouraged to work towards the Beach Lifeguard award required for employment as a professional beach lifeguard in the UK and abroad.
For junior members fibreglass rescue boards, surf skis, paddleboards and the rescue tube replace the soft foam equipment used by nippers. Beach sports skills are also honed. Juniors are encouraged to work towards a range of awards.
Holywell Bay Juniors are a great group with an emphasis on fun and sticking together. Lifelong friendships are struck here and nurtured. Whether learning valuable lifeguarding skills, looking out for and helping younger members or simply hanging out and surfing together, the Junior section of the club is always aimed at having fun. Many of the group activities are varied and tailored to the conditions available or the capability of the group. We can work on the core activities of Surf Life Saving in one part of a session or take a cross-country run around the coastal path or up the Ellenglaze valley. We have navigated the Ellenglaze stream on foot as far as we can; we have even come back down it on boards. We do have a focus on Surf Life Saving Skills and Surf Life Saving Sport but we also have a strong belief in activities that keep the group having fun and most importantly keeping the group together.
