Winter Update
Pete Herman regularly attends our Committee meetings and checks on the health of the Club. He greets everyone with a smile and checks each department pulse by pulse. Whilst Pete’s role in the Club has spanned decades, he still lives in the now, remains fully engaged, and spends lots of his time dreaming up ideas of how to improve what we do. Pete is a genuine cool guy, loved by all and without his old school, self determined, unassuming, always ready to share ethic, we wouldn’t have the Club we have now.
Winter Juniors have been enjoying their never ending training. Always on the look out for surprise, they have been searching the local wilderness for fun, well off the beaten path. From Penhale to Polly, they’ve been paddling, jogging, building shelters, trying their best to stay alive…. The Juniors will do a Sponsored walk on March 14th walking the coastal path from Holywell Bay to St Aggy to raise funds towards Club Equipment. Thanks to Jon, Rhys, Dave Pleasants and Mike Smith who give up their time and keep our youngsters energised, whatever the weather.
Lots of excitement coming up this month, ZEN master Dave Bruce, Kerry and Olivia have been working hard producing the next MOR magazine. This edition is a celebration of 2014, packed full of photos and stories, it’s not to be missed and we hope it lands on your door step very soon. Surf Life Saving Events never really receive much ink in the press, so to try and capture the magic of our Club, we produce our own. Huge thank you to Kerry, who keeps the raw ingredients assembled on the kitchen counter, measured and prepped, waiting for Dave to start tossing them in the pan.
Thanks to the ever-supporting Parish Council, who have bought the Club some new Recycling Bins. We have purchased a Brand New Double ski, we are introducing the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for Juniors. The Nippers have back to back Still-water events for the next fortnight, GOOD LUCK PEEPS. Back at the cave,Donna is kindly working on a grant which will hopefully give the club a cash injection of up to £10,000 towards Junior Sport Equipment. Adam Coad worked super hard just before Christmas and got the Juniors through their SLS Awards, WELL DONE GUYS.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Join Rhys on a Saturday Morning down at the Hut, he’s started an exercise Class down there; you work at your own pace, in a relaxed, cosy environment. It starts at 9:00am and you will be warmly welcomed, whether you want to shed a few pounds, or drop off some heavy brain luggage we all seem to carry; get yourself down there, its a GREAT place to be!
One of the Countries best surfers, Andrew Griffin is setting up our very own Web site. Jeeka is kindly moving the Club gently into the digital era. He’s a loyal member who has been rooted down there since he was a little nipper, check out what he does at www. majik-websites.co.uk. We are all super excited to see the results, huge thanks also to Jon, these guys are working hard behind the scenes to bring us all something really special, we can all be stoked with.
On behalf of Proud President Pedro and his ever growing army of helpers, thanks for being part of the Club.
