Surf Series Round 3, Gylingvase, June 5th, 2015

Finally some sun!! A trip to the building site that is Gyllynvase Beach. The nippers hit the Eliminator. This time it was as much a mental exercise as physical. Woody described the convoluted course causing much furrowing of brows, and that was just the parents. The 8-10s saw Isobel, Toby and Evie paddle valiantly around what was a very long course. Well done guys. In the older 11-13 year olds it was a again Lewis and Jay to the fore, both made the final only to lose out to standout paddler Sam on his home beach. Joe was a victim of the elimination in the penultimate round.

In the surf series for 14 year olds Iwan again swam strongly and paddled to a repeat of his 2nd place from rounds one and two. He was not too shabby in the sprint either.

Attention turned to the Surf Series proper. These competitors are looking to show their hand for selection for Cornwall, England and possible GB selection. Rosalie was a star, pushing the top GB paddlers incredibly close on HMS Longman. Strange to say but it was good to see her disappointed with what was a great result….. The fire is burning:-) Her swim was pretty good too.
Jess paddled strongly and completed team taplin and beach relays well.
At the end of the day it was the turn of the the sand rats. Emily once again had to settle for 2nd in both sprints and flags. The pictures show the effort she put in. Roll on the Nationals at Exmouth! Then to round off a great night it was old father time proving that lycra has no place on a 44 year old, but still showing the youngsters how it’s done, well done Rhys!
Thank you Scott Woody and all the safety crew for a fun series. Good luck to all those selected for the ranking events later this month!
