World Champion at Holywell Bay SLSC
If you were down on the beach on Saturday 10 September, you may have heard the happy noise coming from the surf hut when the club congratulated 3 of their members.
Steve Peck, Jon Longman and Rhys Ellis-Davies had returned from the World Surf Lifesaving Championships at Noordwijk in the Netherlands earlier in the week with 1 bronze medal, 5 silvers and a fantastic gold medal for Jon Longman who is now the reigning World Champion for surf lifesaving board racing.
Their medals were won in board race, board rescue, board relay, oceanman, taplin relay and in beach flags which was particularly challenging with 149 entries!
The world championships are as they say – with teams from all over the world competing for medals. Steve, Jon and Rhys were up against very established and recognised teams such as those from Australia and California – but they have now heard about Holywell Bay, and will fear them in future competitions!
An absolutely brilliant result for Holywell Bay and a true reflection on the commitment the club has for improving its ability to keep the beach safe for our community.
