Design a Logo Competition
Holywell Bay SLSC are hosting the National Surf Life Saving Championships in Summer 2017 – and part of the planning process is to hold a Design a Logo Competition.
One of the first things we need to do is get in place an epic logo and strapline for us to use – just like they had for the Olympic Games and other big sporting events.
We’re inviting all club members young and old to give us some inspiration and enter this competition – the winning design will influence the end logo that we’ll get professionally created!
Please send us your designs and ideas for the event strapline by Saturday 27th February – by email, post us a pic on our Facebook page, or hand your design to one of the committee – we don’t mind how you get it to us; it’s the ideas that count!
Here are a few pointers and things to consider:
1. Keep it simple – the logo has to be recognisable both small and large, and both online and in the real world – e.g. as an icon on social media and blown up onto large event posters, so simple designs work best.
2. Think about use of colour – Obviously Holywell colours are red and green, but we want all clubs to be included and at home with us too. Light colours like yellow may look like the sand & sun, but don’t show up well against a white background. Think about how well it will stand out and be recognisable to people.
3. We want the logo and strapline to represent Holywell Bay in some way, to let people know what we’re all about and to remember us by.
4. A strapline (or slogan/motto) is the few words that you often see next to a brand logo – e.g. for the London 2012 Olympics it was ‘Inspire a generation’. No more than 5 words works best. It should capture the spirit of what the Championships is all about.
You can enter with just a logo, just a strapline, or both. We’ll choose a shortlist at the next sub-committee meeting on 28th February and then will put the best 5 ideas up for all Club members to vote on!
